Located in Curtiss, Wisconsin on Interstate #29, stands an impressive 14,350 square foot travel center providing a wide range of products and services in one location. In addition to a gas station and modern truck stop, the center offers a restaurant, convenience stores and a friendly atmosphere to rest and recharge.
The timber frame was crafted in new Douglas Fir with Black Walnut accent timbers. The main timbers are massive, with the majority of them measuring 12" x 18" inches in width. Intricate timber work and the warmth and hue of the natural timbers creates a unique visual appeal that is most unusual for a travel center. From an exterior perspective, there is a complex, multi-angled roof design with interesting valleys and hips. The Curtiss Travel Center is indeed a sight to see whether you're just passing by, or simply interested in the magnitude of this structure.
Thistlewood worked together with the general contractor to ensue that the timber frame was provided on time in the hectic construction schedule. Since the frame is structiral, not merely decorative, the rest of the project depended on the frame being raised when planned.
